Charity Work

In the past, Heavenlyz has rehomed animals under the guidelines of the RSPCA. When animals come in to us they are usually very sick. To know you have given an animal a 2nd chance and in the process, possibly, saved their lives gives us a feel good factor that nothing else can match.

We hope we are helping to discourage bad breeders (i.e. those who breed animals surplus to requirements or indulge in "farming").

Why should you adopt an animal? It's because they're all animals in desperate need of care, love and attention in a permanent home.

Whomever you get your rehomed animal from should have a professional approach to rehoming. They should provide factually accurate information about the animals at all times. They should match the requirements of your household with that of a suitable animal. Before the animal leaves them they should check the details given by potential owners and visit their homes to advise changes that may be needed (e.g. security of boundary fences or home safety). Potential owners should visit the animal several times at the rehoming. centre in order to build up a relationship and to allow further assessment as to the suitability of the match.

All animals that are rehomed should go through strict temperament tests (no animal showing signs of aggression whilst in care should then be rehomed (a) in a home with children and (b) without proper mitigation and acceptance of risk by the person rehoming. the animal). Basic toilet and behavioral training should be started and a feeding pattern established as early as possible.

Before rehoming., all animals (dependant on age) should be vaccinated against dangerous virusses, permanently identified with new owners information (via microchip), neutered or spayed to prevent further offspring (as well as avoiding unwanted matings and possible reproductive disease). They should also be wormed and de-flea'd. Support and expertise should be provided for a period after the animal has been rehomed

Many rehomers will charge a fee to cover their costs (unfortunately it is difficult to tell if unscrupulous rehomers put profit before animal or family welfare).
