Christmas at Heavenlyz

puppyWe hope you enjoy the cute picture on the left, it is the puppy we rescued just before Christmas 2000. Heavenlyz is an extra special place to be over the Christmas holidays, mainly due to the staff's childlike enthusiasm for traditional fun-filled family festivities.
christmas day

Because we have all of our accommodation completely heated, we can create a cosy, relaxed environment. There's no better place for them when they're indoors and for those furry friends who get cold when they walk we provide weatherproof warm coats to wear outside (see the collage of pictures we took on Christmas eve).

Christmas day is a normal working day for our staff, although especially at this time of year we like our boarders to be entirely relaxed and to have a bit of fun.

So, as you can see, there's no animal holiday quite like a Heavenlyz Christmas.

Oh, and just for fun...

Twas a Heavenlyz Christmas Morning

'Twas the morning of Christmas,
and all through Heavenlyz,
We were all warm and cosy,
Safe from the freeze.

kittens in leapardskin chair

The stockings that had hung
On each wall and each door,
Were now emptied of presents,
Which we'd played with on the floor;
The puppies were nestled
In their duvets and beds,
While visions of juicy bones,
Danced in their heads.

The kittens were settled,
In their leopardskin chairs,
While visions of catnip,
Danced in their heads.
And us dogs in our 'kerchiefs,
And us cats in our caps,
Had just settled our brains
For our long morning naps,
When from outside our rooms,
There arose such a clatter,
That we sprang from our beds
To see what was the matter.

Away to the window
We flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters
And threw up the sash.

The sun, on the breast
Of the new fallen snow,
Gave the lustre of mid-day
To objects below,

When what to our wondering
Eyes should we see,
But the food kitchen, all lit,
And the staff filled with glee,
A cacophony of spoons,
Banging loud in their pans,
Signalled the preparing of food,
But there were no empty cans!

More rapid than eagles
The assistants they came,
And they whistled and beckoned,
And called us by name;

"Now Jester. Now, Pippa.
Now, Pongo and Jasper.
In, Charlie. In, Chester.
Now, Wallie and Casper.
In, Suri. In, Thumper.
In, Ethan and Gold
To the bowls near your beds.
Whether you're short or tall,
Now, eat up my friends,
And dash away all."

chicken dinner

As hoovers to a carpet,
Like a plughole to a sink,
This food was so good,
That ne'er did we think,
That it's actually Christmas day,
And that Liza should be,
Playing up in the house,
With Peter, Joe and Emily.

cat asleep

Too soon our bowls were empty,
But our bellies were full,
That we could not think,
Of a luckier animal.

And so sweetly we fell,
Into a deep, lustrous slumber,
And they tickled our bellies,
Until into bed we did lumber.

And then, in a twinkling,
We heard all around,
The snoring of our friends,
Cos' sleep did abound.

For we were contented,
And cared for by them,
Who stood in for our parents,
And cared just the same.

But I alone stretched my eyelid,
Even so heavy it seemed,
And noticed the figure,
Who eyed me and beamed.

I'm sure that she thought,
That I was asleep,
But that didn't stop her caring,
For us ever so deep.

She was dressed in her uniform,
From her head to her foot,
And her clothes were neatly pressed,
With a shine on her boot;
And a bundle of treats she held
There in her palm,
And she looked like an angel
Full of comfort and calm.

Her eyes - how they twinkled!
Her dimples, how merry!
Her cheeks were like roses,
Her nose like a cherry.
Her long brunette hair
Was drawn up with a knack,
Into one long thick plait,
Which hung down her back;
A wink of her eye
And a twist of her head,
Soon gave me to know
I had nothing to dread;
Her voice settled us down,
She went on with her work,
She laid down the treats;
Then turned with a jerk,
And laying her finger
Aside of her nose,
And giving a nod,
Disappeared from my doze;
She crept out the kennels,
As light as a bird,
And away did she tiptoe
Only our snores could be heard.

Now I know that I'm dreaming ........
But the truth plainly is ........
That there's no better Christmas ........
Than Christmas at Heavenlyz
