About Heavenlyz

Heavenlyz was established in March 1998. Although it was a going concern, major refurbishments were necessary to ensure that the accommodation exceeded the standards that both our clientele and the bodies that regulate us demanded. Here's a couple of pictures to give you an idea of the environment we enjoy..

Why's HEAVENLYZ unique?

There are many boarding kennels in the UK, both for private boarders and quarantine. We at Heavenlyz like to think we stand out from the rest because: -

  • We strive for 5 star quality
  • We treat each animal as an individual
  • We purposely keep the number of animals we board low so that we promote a homely environment and concentrate on each animals needs
  • We actively promote the rescue of unwanted pets and raise funds for local and national charities
  • Heavenlyz has a family feel
  • We have an informative and popular website, www.heavenlyz.com
  • We aim to know all of our boarders names off by heart
  • We provide an optional a la carte menu (e.g. if your animal wants toast in the morning, they get toast)
  • We pamper our guests like they would be pampered at home
  • We spend time individually with each of our guests
  • We record as much detail as possible about all of our guests in order for us to better cater for them
  • After we've finished feeding, cleaning, grooming, hugging and playing with the animals, we start all over again

If you can think of other reasons why we're unique then please suggest them by emailing us.

Heavenlyz people

Hello, we're the staff at Heavenlyz and we work at the best animal holiday home in the country. We promise that as you walk through the gates at Heavenlyz you'll receive a warm, friendly welcome. We pride ourselves on maintaining a relaxed, happy, homely environment. When you leave your pet here, you'll holiday with peace of mind, knowing that there is always at least one senior member of the team on site and on 24hr call. In addition, there's always a sufficient number of assistants present during the day ready to wait on your pet hand and foot, to entertain them at the merest yawn of boredom and to ensure that our fluffy friends enjoy their holidays as much as their owners. Obviously, we must be doing something right. Heavenlyz has grown in popularity enormously, with clients from all over the UK. Now, with the Pet Passport we also even have clients coming from qualifying countries (e.g. Germany).

Heavenlyz, for people who care about animals, run by people who care about animals.

Liza

The owner, Liza Cox started working in the field of animal welfare in 1988. Liza has worked as a student veterinary nurse for: - Veterinary Surgeon Mr. J. A. Mason of Eastwood, Nottinghamshire previous to his retirement; Rogers and Brock Veterinary Surgery of Cheadle, Staffordshire; The Park Veterinary Group in Leicester and also as Shelter Supervisor for the RSPCA at Radcliffe on Trent, Nottinghamshire.

As if she doesn't deal with enough, Liza is also married to Peter, has a daughter, Emily, born in 1997, and a son, Joe, born in 2002 - a full time adventure of it's own. When Liza gets spare time, she likes to spend it outdoors, particularly walking her dogs. As well as Peter and Emily, Liza shares her home with 3 cats, Frank, Conker and Pumpkin. Liza, fund raises for various charities and if you speak to her she will tell you her work is more than a job...it's a way of life. Liza's work is a part of her, without it she wouldn't be the person she is.
Liza bought the kennels and cattery as a going concern in 1998 and immediately renamed the business, "Heavenlyz". Major improvements had to be made. Liza planned and managed massive refurbishments of most of the original accommodation. In fact, where Liza felt that original units could not be brought up to standard, they were demolished. Liza wanted to create a distinct "Heavenlyz" atmosphere, experience and service, especially with regards to each individual animal's health and welfare.

Liza has worked with all kinds of animals...

Nina

Nina is Liza's mother and, although she's been heavily involved in all the refurbishments since 1998, didn't start work as a Heavenlyz supervisor until 2000. Nina enjoys walking in her spare time.

Diane

Diane joined Heavenlyz in 1998, working as a volunteer a couple of days per month. Diane now works part-time as a team leader. Diane also enjoys walking her own dogs and is interested in holistic therapies.

Alison

Alison joined Heavenlyz in 2002 as a trainee National Vocational Qualification worker in Animal Care and has achieved the NVQ level 2 award. Alison works as a kennel assistant providing support to Liza and Nina. Alison has recently passed her driving test and is now enjoying her new found freedom. Alison also enjoys shopping and nightlife.

Kerry

Kerry joined Heavenlyz in April 2001 as a part-time kennel assistant. Kerry is currently studying for a degree in animal science and works as a Seasonal Care assistant providing support in our busy season.

Ben

Ben is Liza's father and maintains the gardens to make sure that the atmosphere is restful and calming. Ben enjoys country walks with Nina and the company of his grandchildren (as long as he can give them back :-)

Joe, Emily & Peter

bedtime reading

Joe is Peter and Liza's son. Joe was born in 2002 but is trying to catch up with the rest of us as fast as possible.

Emily is Peter and Liza's daughter. Although Emily was born in 1997 and is therefore half the size of all the others, she bosses everyone else around, including Liza.

Peter is Liza's husband. He generally does what Liza tells him to do (the picture above is of one of our boarders and Emily trying to teach Peter how to read :-). In his spare time (:-)) Peter is an IT consultant, testing medium to large computer systems. He also enjoys motor racing, is a member of the Westfield Sportscar Club and hopes one-day to build his own kit-car.

Heavenlyz policies

During the opening hours specified above, Heavenlyz runs an open house. There is no need to make an appointment to come and view the kennels, you may turn up as you wish. However, please bear in mind that we have pet guests to care for and, because of that, the start of your tour may be delayed by a few minutes.

For dogs who have never boarded at Heavenlyz before, Heavenlyz insists on a policy of introducing them to the hotel experience for a 24hr period, running from 10 o'clock in the morning to, at least, 10am the following day. This ensures that the guest is happy with every aspect of our daily routine. During this period we assess the guest's personal preferences, including dietary and hygiene requirements. It also allows us to get to know the guest and for the guest to get to know us. It is also beneficial in that the guest is collected by their owner after a relatively short period, thereby reinforcing the animal's expectation that they are not simply being discarded. If, however, at any time during this 24hr period the guest displays signs of anxiety, we contact the owner and ask for the guest to be retrieved. We then try again at another convenient time. We only charge for this service once the 24hr introduction period has been completed successfully.

Heavenlyz protects all pets that board with us by requiring that any guest arriving has up to date vaccinations (a properly completed vaccination certificate will be required on arrival). This is a policy that we enforce without exception. Note that some vaccinations are required to be administered a specified number of days in advance of your pet entering boarding establishments. Contact Liza for advice in this matter.

Heavenlyz enforces a strict policy of recording a contact number in your absence. This contact number is used in times of concern only and the contact must be able to retrieve and care for the guest when circumstances arise. This contact number is always verified on arrival.

Heavenlyz has close links with the local Veterinary Surgeons. Heavenlyz staff always assess the health of an animal on arrival. Where we become concerned with the health of a pet in our care we do not hesitate to seek a Veterinary surgeons advice. If the animal requires treatment or we remain concerned with it's health we will also use the contact details we obtained from you on arrival.

We always, without exception, quote the boarding or grooming price prior to your pet staying with us. Where those prices may vary from the quote we discuss this also.

We ask clients to provide an unwashed (disposable) item (e.g. old, recently worn T-shirt) that we may place in their pet's beds at night-time so that they can gain assurance by your smell/scent. We ask for items that are easily washable (e.g. not duvets) so that where they can be returned, they can be returned "clean". Having this item present will reduce the animal's anxiety or stress at being separated from their family. We also manage anxiety by giving the pet plenty of aural (via music), visual (via the right decor, mirrors and pictures) and physical (via activity toys) stimulation. We also practice aromatherapy given the owner's consent.

We try to mimic your pets normal home routine, e.g. our a la carte menu options. The pets are, where possible, fed and exercised at the same times as these activities would occur at home.

All animals in our care are treated with patience, love and understanding.

Heavenlyz believes that pets are members of the family, just like children.
